Tides 3.0
The app is out on the app store, from now on a single app called Tides Planner. The app is free to start and, under Tools>App extensions, you add years and country specific hydrographic licences. Immediately you can add 2012 and 2013, plus licences for UK, France, Holland and Belgium. US, Australia, New Zealand, Italy, Japan and other countries do not need licences.
The app includes improved tides predictions for European ports, based on our own new constituent analysis engine. More countries will be added in future updates.
Tides Planner 10 (2010/11) and Tides Planner 11 (2011/12) have been updated with all the new features. The hydrographic licence of Tides Planner 10 expires at the end of Dec 2010, when you should update to the new Tides Planner.
Tides for rig work

Rob from Rotterdam uses the tides app to plan work when moving marine equipment: “I am a towmaster ( Rigmover), this means a sort of pilot for drilling rigs, jackups. We use all kind of means to get information about the tide and current. I like Tides Planner because it is fast and very portable. Even when I walk on deck it is easy to check the current without a pc, totally offline.”

Wheelchair and tides

John in France is an enterprising Tides Planner user. He is disabled but likes to enjoy the beach and needs to know the times to gain access and leave.
“J’ai un fauteuil qui peut rouler sur le sable, donc je peux faire des ballades le long de la mer…
Cependant je ne peux remonter sur la terre ferme que à certains endroits, donc je dois être vigilant par rapport aux horaires des marées…”
Challenge Wales

Our tides user John takes part in the fantastic charity Challenge Wales, dedicated to providing young people aged between 12 and 25 years old a chance to develop their self-esteem and life-skills of team working and communication through the experience of sailing.

iPad Tides
The Tides app now supports the iPad. The app is universal, running in both iPhone and iPad with only one purchase.
We have also added some improvements:
- Tidal streams/currents (Europe) show strength in color.
- The minimum depth indicator moves with the scale automatically. Use this feature to assess depth for different charted depths.
- Shortcut to favourites from front screen.
Currents now available – Europe
Tidal streams/currents are available in Tides Planner. Thank you for all your feedback on our beta version. Tidal stream predictions are based on the hourly based system which is the standard of the IHO and used on charts. The geographical range covers Ireland, the UK, Belgium, Holland and part of German and Danish waters.
Make a basic plan with tide heights and currents, both of which can be emailed from the app.

Bird watching
Tides Planner user Howard plans his birdwatching trips in Scotland using the app. “I use Tides Planner for birdwatching. High tide concentrates the flocks and makes it easier to get close to them…he best thing about Tides Planner from my viewpoint is that I can find tidal information for up to 12 months ahead.”
Happy birdwatching.
